Student FAQ:
Will I Be Able To Find Work, Once I Complete My Course?
Once you have completed your chosen course, you will be ready to begin work in a variety of aesthetic settings.
Every student has different ideas about how and where they would like to practice Aesthetic Medicine. As mentioned earlier, our courses are geared towards preparing our students for a future career as an independent practitioner who is able to confidently assess and treat your patients. However, there are many other options, such as working in an established practice or salon as the Aesthetic Practitioner, working with a Surgeon or Dermatologist, or working in one of the many franchised laser clinics.
Having said that, we regularly attend conferences and expos, and make regular contact with salon and business owners, to keep an eye on employment vacancies for our team members. Where possible, we make every effort to match up our members with vacancies that may suit them. Our network of members also keeps one another up to date with available positions.
Even better, we offer clinic space for students who feel they would like to get started but still feel they need some supervision and support – see Work With Us! for more information.
I Need A Change & I Love Aesthetics… But What If I’m Not Sure Exactly What I Want To Do?
We find that some students have a clear idea of where they want to take their career, other have more of a general idea and interest, preferring to do the workshops first before setting on a firm career path.
We have all types in our organisation! We have practitioners who jump in with both feet and invest in their business all the way, then others who prefer to keep it as a ‘side-hustle’ while keeping their day jobs. There are students who stick with doing cosmetic injectables, others sign up for the whole suite of courses.
There’s room for everyone and it’s up to you to decide what works best for you. Remember – unlike traditional health care work where you are bound by strict policies and procedures, businesses are as individual as the people who run them. Once you learn the clinical skills, you get to do the business your way!
What if I Need More Help After The Course?
We are always available to assist, anytime you need it and, as mentioned earlier, we do everything we can think of to help you take those first few steps. Our one important piece of advice though, is to just START!
The period after your course has finished is crucial for consolidating your new skills. Buy some product and start practicing – on friends, on family, on anyone who’ll let you!
Or perhaps you’d like to Work With Us once you finish? Get in contact so we can help you get started!
How Much Hands On Training Do I Get At The Workshops?
The feedback we receive consistently says that our hands-on training is well beyond what is offered by anyone else. We frequently have students at our workshops doing Refresher Days, despite having completed expensive courses with other providers (sometimes costing as much as $20 000) but still not feeling confident. We believe this is due, most often, to a lack of practical experience offered by many providers. Some of the comments we have heard from these students are:
“I only got to do an eighth of a lip”
“There was only time to sit in a corner and watch”
“There were 18 people in the class – and only one model”

At AMA, we KNOW that sufficient hands-on training is essential for our students and we strive to provide as much as possible. So:
-
we keep our class sizes small (four students maximum) so our students get plenty of opportunity to practice on live models
-
we open the clinic to students to bring models in under supervision, even after they complete their course see ‘Work With Us’
-
we are a phone call away anytime you need help and in fact, we encourage students to stay in contact with us regardless – we love to hear from you and hear about what you’re up to.
What Happens At My Workshop?
To prepare you for our workshops, you will first do a comprehensive theoretical component and quiz, in your own time. We recommend you allow yourself at least two weeks but even longer is better, to really get your head around the material.
To prepare you for our workshops, you will first do a comprehensive theoretical component and quiz, in your own time. We recommend you allow yourself at least two weeks but even longer is better, to really get your head around the material.
Our workshops are then all practical and run like a typical day in a busy clinic, with models arriving for their prearranged appointment times (usually every 30-60 minutes) and students learning how to consult, discuss their aesthetic concerns, perform their treatments under supervision, and make an ongoing plan with them.
The patient interview and aesthetic consult are essential skills as much as the actual treatment, so we make sure you have plenty of practice at that too.
After the workshop, we recommend you return to the theory module and do it a second time to consolidate your knowledge and new skills. Then – you’re ready to go!
Do I Have to Bring My Own Models?
Not at all. Thanks to our excellent reputation and our clinical relationships we have built up over years, we have a pool of super-keen models that we call upon for our training days. Our models pay significantly reduced costs for treatment, so places are very much in demand.
Having said that, we always recommend you try to bring a model or two of your own. For one thing, it helps to guard against rare cases of non-attendance by our own models and for another, it helps you to start building up your own patient list.
If you have anyone you think would be suitable, just forward their contact details to us and we’ll get in touch with them to discuss their suitability and organise a time for them.
We do it this way, so you don’t have to ‘bring’ anyone with you – you have enough to concentrate on. Let us organise the appointment time for your models!
What Workshops Does AMA Offer?
Most of our students commence their new aesthetics career with our Introduction to Cosmetic Injectables course. This is the area of greatest demand from the public, so the logical place to start.
However, we strongly encourage our students to learn about the main other treatment modalities on the market, to ensure optimal results for your patients. In the dynamic and hypercompetitive environment that is Aesthetic Medicine, patients are always on the hunt and shopping around for the latest and best techniques and products. You WILL get asked about everything from lasers to threads to fat dissolving, so be ready!
We offer a range of different workshops, such as Lipolysis & Fat Reduction, and PDO Threads & Threadlifting. Check out our Course Dates for more information.

We also offer a referral pathway via our Aesthetic Physicians and encourage you to get in touch if you feel your patient’s aesthetic needs are beyond what you can offer as a beginning procedure. Your patients will feel cared for and respected on their aesthetic journey – this is important in an industry which all too often offers ‘conveyor-belt’ type treatments.
Do You Offer Payment Plans?
We do not. Firstly, because we believe our courses are priced affordably, compared with the alternatives out there, and secondly, because our courses are priced with a consideration of the sort of prices you’ll be charging your patients when you’re out practicing. It can be an expensive industry, so be prepared. In business, you’ll appreciate it when your patients don’t ask for payment plans or discounts and instead just pay their invoices fairly and without complaint - and so do we!

Finally (and this is perhaps most important), we want our students to think seriously about whether they’re at the right point in their lives to make this career change. It costs money to set up a business – to buy product, consumables, and insurance, as well as the many other hidden costs that come up along the way.
You’re going to want to make a start immediately after completing the course, and we want you to start too. Make sure the time is right for you.
Are Your Workshops ‘Accredited’?
We are often asked this, so have included it as a separate point. No, our workshops are not ‘accredited’, for the following reasons:
-
We only accept AHPRA-registered Health Professionals who are already certified to administer S4 drugs at a minimum and as such, are already familiar with how to perform injectable therapies.
-
The certification received from AMA is more than adequate to obtain professional indemnity insurance and demonstrate that you have successfully undertaken training in your chosen skill.
-
Disappointingly, we have noted that many training organisations justify astronomical prices for similar courses by advertising accreditation. Although it may seem comforting to have this box ticked, we encourage our students to reflect on the need to pay extra for these workshops, when it is not a requirement to work in the Aesthetics Industry.
How Do I Get Started with Aesthetic Medicine Australia?
Simple!
If you have more questions or would just like to have more of a chat about everything, look at our Enquire Now page and submit the form. Let us know which course, date, and location (Sydney or Melbourne) you’re interested in. We will be in contact with you as soon as we can.
Once payment is received, we’ll send you out the theory module so you can get started.
Don’t forget that the courses are tax deductible!
*Important*: Due to our small class sizes, our courses can tend to book out several months in advance. If you’re really keen to make a start, let us know and we’ll put you first in line, in case of a cancellation.
What About Course Cancellations and Reschedules?
After the disruption caused by COVID lockdowns over the last couple of years, rescheduling courses, students, and models has become our forte. We have had many of our courses delayed by lockdowns, particularly in Melbourne. What we found is that our students simply had extra time to immerse themselves in the prereading and theory so that, come workshop time, they were extremely knowledgeable and raring to go (and certainly kept us on our toes too!).
Our calendar is organised a year in advance, so students have plenty of notice about upcoming courses. In the event we have to reschedule a course due to external events, we’ll let you know as early as possible and make every effort to accommodate your preferences for the rescheduled course.
If you decide to cancel your course after already being given the course material, we’ll provide you with a 50% refund of the course costs.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, otherwise we hope you can join us at Aesthetic Medicine Australia!
